We are on the lookout for a Senior Payroll Officer – a critical support role within our People & Culture team. If you have a keen eye for detail, enjoy structured tasks, and are eager to contribute to a values-driven team in the health & fitness space, this could be your perfect fit.
The Role:
As a Senior Payroll Officer you will play a dual role in supporting fortnightly payroll operations while ensuring company-wide compliance across employee and contractor records. This is an ideal role for someone with foundational payroll or HR experience, or a recent HR/business graduate ready to grow in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities:
Payroll Support
- Assist with end-to-end payroll processing on a fortnightly basis.
- Handle employee lifecycle updates in payroll, including onboarding, terminations, and role changes.
- Support commission calculations and ensure the accuracy of timesheets, leave, and allowances.
- Ensure all payroll data is accurately maintained in Xero and Deputy.
- Support award interpretation and compliance with Australian tax, superannuation, and wage regulations.
Compliance & Training Coordination
- Monitor and track qualifications on Deputy (CPR, First Aid, Blue Cards, Insurances, Fitness Certificates).
- Follow up on expired or expiring certifications and coordinate timely renewals.
- Maintain training compliance records in OpCentral and Deputy.
- Support onboarding processes and the deployment of learning modules across the organisation.
People & Culture Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate and well-organised digital records (OpCentral, Deputy, employee files).
- Generate dashboards and reports to highlight payroll and compliance trends.
- Provide administrative support for audits, policy reviews, and People & Culture projects.
What you'll need to succeed:
Key Skills & Attributes
- Payroll experience (especially in Xero).
- Experience using Deputy, OpCentral or similar platforms is an advantage.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data management.
- Strong organisational skills and a methodical, process-driven mindset.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative, team-first attitude.
- A proactive, curious approach with a strong interest in HR and operational excellence.
- Passion for health and fitness – understanding of gym operations is a plus!
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field (desirable).
- Previous experience in a payroll or HR admin role (preferred, not essential).
- Knowledge of Fair Work and Australian employment law is beneficial.
- Australian working rights are required.
